    We start the day with a leaf-peeping drive up the Ohio River to Moundsville, WV, where we'll visit the Grave Creek Mound and Museum (free entry). We'll stop in New Martinsville for lunch at the lovely riverside restaurant, Quinet's, and get our dose of quaint shopping at The Green House in St. Mary's. Cost: $40 (includes lunch).   • Ladies' Social Escapade #3

    Date: Wednesday, October 17, 2024

    Time: 10:00am - 2:00pm

    This escapade takes us to Marietta to explore the city’s ancient and recent history. From the Sacra Via, Mound Cemetery, The Castle, and The Anchorage, we’ll cover hundreds of years in just a few hours. Please note due to museum hours, this escapade sets sail on Thursday, October 17.   • Haunted Edition

    We escape out of downtown Parkersburg to explore the hauntings of Fort Boreman, trace the steps of serial killer Joseph Eisle towards his unmarked grave, and listen for the ghostly drums heard at a forgotten cemetery. Oil and Gas

The history of oil and gas in West Virginia actually started with salt mining. Initially without much practical use, “Old Greasy” (oil) was frequently directed towards the Kanawha River to facilitate salt mining operations. During these activities gas was unexpectedly unearthed, as individuals used lit candles near a salt deposit, leading to a flame transforming into a dazzling light. Explore the fascinating impact that the discovery of oil and gas had on shaping the future of the industrial landscape in the United States. (Event happens rain or shine!)
