Oil and Gas
The history of oil and gas in West Virginia actually started with salt mining. Initially without much practical use, “Old Greasy” (oil) was frequently directed towards the Kanawha River to facilitate salt mining operations. During these activities gas was unexpectedly unearthed, as individuals used lit candles near a salt deposit, leading to a flame transforming into a dazzling light. Explore the fascinating impact that the discovery of oil and gas had on shaping the future of the industrial landscape in the United States. (Event happens rain or shine!)
